Question: How do we combine between understanding that Faith consist of having faith in Allaah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, The Last Day and the Decree the good of it and the evil of it and the statement of the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم " Faith has seventy some odd branches"?
Answer: Faith which is the belief, its Foundations are six and this is what is mentioned in the hadith of Jibreel when he ask the prophet what is Faith he said: " Faith is that you believe in Allaah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, The Last Day, and that you believe in the Decree the good of it and the evil of it." But as for as Faith which comprise of actions, its kinds and types then it is seventy odd branches and for this Allaah called the prayer, Faith in His statement,
" And Allaah will not cause your Faith to be lost verily Allaah to mankind is kind and merciful." (2:143) The scholars of tasfeer said " your faith" means your prayer towards the direction of Jerusalem, because the companions before they were ordered to change their direction of prayer to the Qiblah they prayed toward masjid al-aqsa.
